UTA vs. Saint Peter's Game Notes
After its most exciting game of the season, and a thrilling 74-73 last second win over Kent State (who is ranked No. 8 in this week's mid-major poll), the UT Arlington men's basketball team will look to come home with a winning record at the Athletes in Action Classic Thursday.
The Mavericks will play their third game in as many days at the tournament as they take on Saint Peter's from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Thursday at 6:30 p.m. CT.
UTA enters the game 5-5 after Wednesday's win as LaMarcus Reed made a game-winning three-pointer with 2.4 seconds remaining. Reed finished with a game-high 22 points and is now averaging 14.2 points per game.
The Mavericks have been playing some close games in the last few days. Wednesday's one-point victory was the third consecutive game decided by five points or less. Wednesday's game was also the first win this season in a game in which the Mavericks had been outrebounded and shot a lower percentage than their opponents.
This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams and the fifth in a stretch of six consecutive games away from home for the Mavericks.
Darius Conley who averages just over 13 points and eight rebounds per game leads Saint Peter's, who made the NCAA Tournament last year. The Peacocks lost to Utah State 72-47 Wednesday after dropping their first game of the tournament to Kent State Tuesday.
As always the game can be heard in the Metroplex on KVCE (1160 AM) or kvceradio.com
