Arlington, Texas - As the academic school year comes to an end, soon to be sophomore Desherra Nwanguma shares her thoughts with Maverick fans on what life is like as a student-athlete.

As the year winds down, and the season comes to an end, we prepare ourselves to end the academic year out strongly. This means not only going to study hall regularly, but camping out in the library some nights.

Being a college student means your textbooks are your new best friends and being a student-athlete means doing everything in your power to make sure your grades are up to par.

While doing that, we also sharpen our skills on the court whether it's individually working on our game or pumping iron in the weight room in order to get stronger and mentally tougher in preparation for the upcoming season. Perfecting post moves, tightening up our dribbling skills, and shooting from various ranges are just a few of the things we work on in individuals. But it's our responsibility to continue to work on the skills that we've developed and perfected over time, even in our free time.

As time goes by, you learn to not only adjust to your surroundings and become more comfortable in the college environment, but you also learn to go above and beyond what's expected of you both in sports and in the classroom. I learned that the only way you are going to get anywhere in life is to work hard at it and to never give up. And we have no intention of giving up.
