ARLINGTON, Tex. - UT Arlington split its final two matches of the UT Arlington Hilton Invitational on Saturday, sweeping Prairie View A&M before losing in straight sets to Texas Tech in the finale.

Despite six blocks and four kills from Emily Shearin, the Mavericks dropped a set to Texas Tech, 25-16, 25-18, 25-16 at Texas Hall.

The Red Raiders (12-1) hit .309 in the match, led by Amanda Dowdy and her 15 kills and 15 digs.

Shearin and Amanda Aguilera, who had seven kills and six digs against the Red Raiders earned spots on the UT Arlington Hilton Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Alicia Shaffer led the Mavericks defensively with nine digs. Aguilera and Tara Frantz paced the offense with seven kills apiece and Charae Grosser added six.

The Mavs struggled offensively, however - especially in the third set when they hit just -.071.

"We went up against a very big and physical Texas Tech team tonight," assistant coach Erin Clute said. "By the end of the match we were extremely high-error. I think part of it was the physical, mental and emotional fatigue. It's been a very tough weekend on this group of girls. We did some good things, but I think we ran out of gas there at the end."

Earlier in the day the Mavericks beat Prairie View A&M going away, 25-19, 25-12, 25-17.

Tara Frantz paced the offense with 12 kills. Alicia Shaffer led the defense with 16 digs and Shearin added six blocks to go along with her six kills.

Amanda Aguilera finished a dig shy of a double-double, ending the match with 10 kills and nine digs.

Amanda Welsh dished out 35 assists and had seven digs. Charae Grosser finished with eight kills.

The Mavericks hit .260 in the match, running their record to 3-0 when hitting above .250 in a set.

"The positive that we got from the weekend was Friday night we finally got a win against a team that we should have beaten but wasn't a guarantee," Clute said. "We struggled on the road to hold down teams that we're evenly matched with. I think we finally got over that hurdle."

UT Arlington returns to the court Thursday when it opens the Southland Conference season with a 7 p.m. match at Texas Hall against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
