ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington men's golf team will travel to Los Cabos, Mexico to compete in the Querencia Cabo Collegiate tournament from Sunday to Tuesday.

"We are going there to win the tournament," Mavericks coach Jay Rees said. "If everyone contributes to the team score competitively, we can win the tournament. We are very close to winning a tournament. We could have done it last week at Notre Dame if not for our second round."

The Mavericks finished fifth in the Fightin Irish Gridiron Classic, hosted by the university of Notre Dame. Three finished in the top 10 as individuals, led by Hunter Brown, who tied for second.

"The guys are focused and know they have to do the little things well for us to get to the top," Rees said. "I feel the chemistry of the team is coming together, but everyone has to do their job for our golf team to win."

UTA's five-man team is Brown, Paul McConnell, Riley Fleming, Brad Mason and Cameron Hollek. Cash Wilkerson is competing as an individual.

The Mavericks will tee off at Querencia Cabo Golf resort located near the Sea of Cortez. This 7,050-yard, par-72 golf course is encircled with ancient cacti and palm trees.

"Querencia is a very special place," Rees said. "It is the No. 1 golf course in Mexico, according to Golfweek magazine, so this is a great opportunity for our program to shine on a great golf course."

The 15-team tournament includes host Santa Clara, University of Arkansas of Little Rock, Florida State, Lamar, South Florida, Southern Louisiana, Ole Miss, SMU, Oregon State, Cincinnati, Saint Mary's University, Kentucky, South Dakota State and Abilene Christian.
