ARLINGTON, Texas -- The UT Arlington Mavericks remained winless on the season, dropping their fourth game to the Memphis Tigers 89-76 at College Park Center Wednesday night. The total points for UTA was a season high.

The Mavericks had a rough go-around trying to defend the Tigers' Nicole Dickson, who led Memphis on offense with 30 points and drilled 6 of 8 from 3-point range. The Mavericks used a late charge in the game to keep the game close behind four 3-pointers from Malaika Green. Green finished with a team-high 28 points, followed by Briana Walker with 22.

"We did a lot of things that we wanted to do," UT Arlington coach Samantha Morrow said. "We had a small lineup in there because we wanted to push the ball so much. Our bigs have to get more rebounds and get in there and fight more for them."

The game opened with a Memphis run of 11 consecutive points before UTA found the bucket, but the Mavericks would not be quiet in the half. The Mavericks made a 12-2 run during the middle of the first half to cut the Tiger's lead to 12. Green had a team-high 10 points in the half and forced two of the team's six turnoversf. UTA missed all eight of its shots beyond the arc, while Memphis hit 5-of-8 attempts.

"The first half she had 23 points," Morrow said of stopping Dickson. "We did everything that we could and when we started pressing it was just whoever was down the court to stop her."

The Tigers extended its lead to 20 points 30 seconds into the half and capitalized on poor shooting from the Mavericks. UTA's defense against Dickson improved throughout the second half and prevented her from taking open shots.

Green would hit UTA's first 3-pointer of the game with 7:17 left in the game. UTA rallied within 14 points. Green was able to hit three 3-pointers in a 12-3 run for the Mavericks, but it wasn't enough as Memphis hit its final few free throws.

"I wish we would have had it in the first few minutes," Morrow said. "We created some turnovers. They didn't just quit and give up. We felt like we had a chance and had to foul but their best free throw shooter hit her shots."

The Mavericks are back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Houston Baptist at 7 p.m.
