Hammond, La. - UT Arlington fell behind early and couldn't recover in Saturday afternoon's 71-41 setback at Southeastern Louisiana. The Mavericks dropped to 5-19 on the season and 3-9 in the Southland Conference.
The game didn't start well for UTA, as the Lions were awarded a technical free throw before the opening tip. Southeastern pressed the Mavericks early and quickly built a double-digit lead.
"It started out bad and it ended bad," UT Arlington coach Samantha Morrow said. "We had too many turnovers. We got behind and made bad decisions. Call it youth, call it whatever, but it was just a lackluster performance."
UTA went into the halftime locker room down 36-19. The Mavericks shot 27 percent from the floor during the opening 20 minutes, while Southeastern connected on 56 percent.
Briana Walker and Malaika Green paced UTA with eight points each. Takiyah Langford grabbed seven rebounds off the bench.
Latoria Holder scored a game-high 15 for the Lions, who improved to 10-15 and 4-7 in conference.
The Mavericks return to action Wednesday night (7 p.m.) at College Park Center against SLC foe McNeese State.
