PALM DESERT, Calif. - The UT Arlington men's golf team is in fifth place among 24 teams after a solid 3-under round of 285 Saturday at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. The second round was suspended due to darkness.

"We played our best round of the year," UT Arlington coach Jay Rees said.

No. 12 UNLV leads the way at 9-under (279), while No. 2 Auburn (280), Kent State (282) and St. Mary's (284) hold down the 2-4 spots. UT Arlington leads five other Texas schools, including Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Baylor, SMU and Houston.

Hunter Brown paced the Mavericks with a 3-under 69. He sits in fifth place individually, just three shots off the pace.

Two other Mavs, Pierre Carlsson and Jamey Taylor, also broke par. Their rounds of 71 are good for 12th place currently.

Cameron Hollek (T-54th, 74) and Paul McConnell (T-75th, 76) rounded out the UTA contingent.

The second round will finish up Sunday morning with the final round beginning immediately following.
