SLC Championship Day Two Results 
On a tough weather day at the second round of the 2012 Southland Conference Men's Golf Championship, UT Arlington shot the second-lowest score and got back into the race for the title.
A strong south wind and a dried out course greeted the golfers Tuesday morning and the Stonebridge Ranch course showed its teeth as all 10 teams struggled around the par 72 layout.
The Mavericks carded a 13-over score of 301 Tuesday, and was just one of three team scores under 20-over par, and they did it with a comeback on the last few holes.
Jamey Taylor, who finished with an even par round of 72, hit his approach shot on the 18th hole into a foot and tapped in birdie. That effort followed a birdie by Cash Wilkerson, who drained a 15-footer for a three on the same hole to finish with a 75.
Taylor began the day in a tie for 14th but will enter the final round in a tie for third at just two-over par. After a solid start to his round, he birdied the par four sixth before suffering a double bogey on the next hole. The fifth-year senior then parred holes 8-17 before his ending birdie.
"I got off to a solid start and just tried to keep momentum going all day long," Taylor said. "I had to get up and down a lot and made some 8-10 footers for par when I needed to.
"The wind started getting up there and it was from the south which was the opposite from yesterday," he added. "It was a lot harder today than yesterday."
His round impressed is head coach.
"What a great round by Jamey," UTA head coach Jay Rees said. "He birdie on the last hole and kept the team score together and kept us in it. His 72 was a major lift."
Wilkerson's birdie on the 18th was his only one of the day and he will enter the final round in a tie for 12th at six-over par.
Cameron Hollek, who started off the tournament with a 73 Monday, registered a five-over 77 Wednesday. He was just one-over on his round before he triple-bogeyed the par 4 15th and then three-putted the par three 17th.
Paul McConnell recovered from his first round 81 with a 77 while Hunter Brown slipped to an eight-over 80 Tuesday.
"It is supposed to be really tough tomorrow with higher winds than there were today and 300 might be a great round," Rees said. "If that proves to be the case we might have a chance to win this championship."
