The UT Arlington golf team placed 10th at the Ole Miss BancorpSouth Intercollegiate after the weather-shortened tournament concluded Tuesday.
The Mavericks improved from Monday's 4-over par 292 with a 3-over 291 on Tuesday, moving up one spot from 11th. UTA coach Jay Rees was encouraged by the squad's play to finish the event.
"We did finish today with no big numbers," he said. "We shot 4 over in the first round and 3 over in the second for a 7-over total."
Paul McConnell was tied for 20th place with an even-par 144 over two rounds at the Reunion Golf and Country Club. Hunter Brown (T32, 146), Jamey Taylor (T39, 147), Cameron Hollek (T45, 148), Hunter Brown (T32, 146) and Cash Wilkerson (T62, 152) also competed for UTA.
Rees was disappointed by a few sloppy holes that ended up costing the Mavericks in the standings.
"We counted two double-bogeys and two triple-bogeys. At the end of the day, we are wasting too many shots. We cannot afford to waste this many shots.
"This has been a rebuilding year and we have worked hard to eliminate these things, but it just has not happened yet. Best news, we have not played our best golf yet. That special week is still out there. I have to believe in the glass half full."
The Mavericks hit the links again Monday for the start of the two-day The Woodlands All-American Intercollegiate.
