ERIE, Colorado - The UT Arlington men's golf team finished tied for fifth at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational after Tuesday's third and final round, with a 6-under-par 858. The Mavericks finished ahead of their two WAC opponents in the tournament, Denver (8) and Texas State (12).
Freshman Riley Fleming paced the Mavericks by tying for seventh place, shooting a 6-under 210. Seniors Hunter Brown (T10) and Paul McConnell (T18) also finished in the top 20.
"We shot 2 under par today," UTA coach Jay Rees said. "We moved up to fifth place with Kansas. Riley Fleming, Hunter Brown and Paul McConnell all had good tournaments. Riley played great all week. He just keeps getting better.
"We still have to find consistency in our other three guys. We will find that very soon."
Oregon State (-21) won the tournament, followed by host Colorado, Colorado State and Missouri-Kansas City. Kansas was tied for fifth with UTA.
