LAS CRUCES, N.M. - UT Arlington junior Joss Gosling is tied for fifth after Monday's first two rounds of the 2013 Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate. The Mavericks are tied for sixth in the team standings.
UT Arlington shot a 10-over-par 294 in the first round and followed up it with a plus-11 in the afternoon. The Mavericks' position is the team's highest after two rounds during the fall season. UTA trails tournament host New Mexico State by 17 strokes.
Gosling rallied in the second round with a 3-under 68 at New Mexico State University Golf Course's 7,074-yard layout after posting a 73 in the morning. Gosling was tied for 24th after the first round.
"He shot a 68 with no bogeys," UT Arlington coach Jay Rees said of Gosling. "It was the first time he's ever done that in competition. I'm very proud of his effort. He's getting better every time he competes."
UT Arlington senior Brad Mason is tied for 40th, junior Andrew Cornella and junior Cash Wilkerson are tied for 51st, and freshman Josh Radcliff is tied for 67th.
The third and final round is Tuesday, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. CT.
