Box Score

Nov. 13, 2013

Final Stats

ARLINGTON, Texas - Reger Dowell scored a career-high 35 points to lead UT Arlington to a dominating 111-64 victory Wednesday night over Howard Payne before 1,072 fans at College Park Center.

The Mavericks (2-1) have won the first two games on a three-game homestand culminating with Friday night's Homecoming against Cleveland State. UT Arlington improved to 2-1 all-time against Howard Payne.

The Mavericks scored their most points since 1998 and last reached 100 points on Dec. 22, 2009 in a 101-85 win over Texas Wesleyan. UT Arlington has scored at least 87 in all three games this season.

Dowell has hit the 20-point plateau in each of his three games at UT Arlington. The senior guard knocked down 12 of 19 shots, and is averaging a team-high 26.3 points. The last UT Arlington player to score at least 30 was Marquez Haynes (32 points) on Feb. 6, 2010.

"I was in attack mode," Dowell said. "I haven't played the 2-guard too much in my career, but I'm making that adjustment."

Senior forward Brandon Edwards (18 points and eight rebounds) continues to get it done at both ends. Junior forward Vincent Dillard (12 points and 10 boards) and freshman forward Brandon Williams (15 and 11) had their first UTA double-doubles.

The Mavericks shot 55.6 percent (40 of 72) and limited Howard Payne to 36.7 percent (22 of 60). UT Arlington outrebounded the Yellow Jackets 48-30.

Howard Payne hung tough early. The Yellow Jackets took an 11-8 lead five minutes into the game on Joshua Cormier's 3-pointer.

The Mavericks began to get some separation midway through the first half, as Dowell began to heat up. UT Arlington's lead hit double digits (39-29) on two free throws from Dillard.

"We got into a rhythm late in the first half," UT Arlington coach Scott Cross said. "We were forcing things offensively, but once we starting the moving and sharing the ball we were scoring the ball easier. We're starting to make progress and we're going in the right direction."

Dowell had 19 points at halftime and the Mavericks went into the locker room up 59-33. Edwards scored 10 and grabbed five boards. Dillard had seven rebounds and six points.
