HOUSTON, Texas - UT Arlington women's basketball fell 72-60 in its 2013-14 season opener at Houston Baptist Friday night.
"In the first half, we did some things right," Krista Gerlich said after her first game as UT Arlington coach. "We attacked the basket and got to the free throw line.
"Briana Walker was a warrior the whole night. I think she figured out some ways she can really score and rebound."
The Mavericks started strong with a 6-0 run to begin the game. At the half UTA led 32-28 with Walker leading the way with 14 points.
The Huskies started the second half shaky, but took their first lead of the game at 42-39.
UTA mad a push with three minutes to play in the game with back-to-back buckets closing the gap to 64-60. HBU closed strong to win by 12.
The Mavericks are back on the court Sunday at 1 p.m. as they travel to Stillwater, Okla. to face No. 21 Oklahoma State at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
