FAYETTEVILLE, ARK. - Paul McConnell finished the second day of the NCAA Fayetteville Regional shooting even-par 72 Friday at Blessing Golf Course.

"Paul played better today," UT Arlington coach Jay Rees said. "He had one bad hole. He was 3-under par going into No. 13, he hit his tee shot and it ended up on the cart path, which was right of the green so he had to play it off the cart path. After a couple of chips he left there with a triple.

"I'm proud of they way he is competing. He just needs to eliminate the big numbers and he will shoot a low number."

The senior's 72 left him with a 2-over par 146 after two rounds and tied for 17th. Three golfers are tied for first with a 4-under 140s. The third and final round is Saturday.

"I played well today with a lot of good swings," McConnell said. "Unfortunately I had an unlucky bounce. I'm going to have the same mindest tomorrow and play aggressive."

McConnell needs to finish among the top two individuals not associated with an advancing team to qualify for the NCAA Championship.
