ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington women's basketball, and a member of the women's track and field team participated in a community service event at Rush Creek Apartments on Friday.
"This was a great experience getting to see where all the kids come from, the different backgrounds and personalities they each have," said Jordan Holub, women's basketball sophomore. "Some more shy than others, but each of them always had a smile one their face and were always asking questions from who our favorite singers are to who our favorite basketball players are.
"They just seemed so interested and so enthusiastic about any activity we threw at them. I really enjoyed getting to spend time with these kids. I would definitely love to go again and it is an experience I'll always remember."
Children from the complex took part in a day of fun and games with the Mavericks. The student-athletes and the kids ran basketball drills, played games and one-on-one.
The women's basketball team will be assisting Irving Ministries on Aug. 7 in its next community effort. This event will be the first of many with the church.
