2013-14 Schedule
ARLINGTON, Texas -- The University of Texas at Arlington head women's basketball coach Krista Gerlich today announced the Mavericks 2013-14 schedule.
Gerlich was named the women's basketball coach at UTA on April 11, 2013. She spent the previous seven seasons as the head coach at West Texas A&M University where she compiled an impressive record of 168-53 in seven seasons at West Texas A&M.
The season begins on Nov. 8 with a game at Houston Baptist and then the Mavs head home to host their first game Nov. 14 against Incarnate Word.
The Mavericks will face a pair of Big 12 opponents when they play at Oklahoma State and Oklahoma in November. The Cowgirls have made back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances and made the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in 2013.
"I like the variety of our schedule," Gerlich said. "I think that clearly Oklahoma State and OU are going to be tough tests for us, but great experiences. I think there are some games in there that we can be highly competitive in and successful if we can gel and get our minds right early. I think it's a good preparation for our conference."
The Mavericks will play 14 home games including its first-ever Sun Belt games against Arkansas State (Jan. 2), Arkansas-Little Rock (Jan. 4) and Louisiana Monroe (Jan. 8).
The Sun Belt Conference Tournament is scheduled for March 12-15 at the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, La.
All home SBC games will be played at 5 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. with the exception of Feb. 5's noon game as the Mavs host Louisiana Lafayette. There will be six home doubleheaders with the Mavericks men's team at the College Park Center and those are scheduled for Dec. 21, Jan. 2, Jan. 4, Jan. 25, Feb. 15 and Mar. 1.
"I think we have some work to do," Gerlich said. "The Sun Belt Conference is tough and there are some good teams and coaches in the league. We are going to have our work cut out for us in the Sun Belt, I know our team and staff are looking forward to the challenge of playing in our new conference."
