ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's basketball team fell to a strong New Mexico squad 79-56 despite 26 points coming from the bench inside the College Park Center for the Lady Mavs first and lone exhibition game.
The Lady Mavs had two players score in double figures, led by Kira Reynolds, who had 16 points to go along with four blocks. Kendal Robinson tacked on 13 points while Erin Sellers added four points and two steals.
Kira Reynolds pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for UTA, grabbing 16 boards and turning them into 18 second chance points.
GAME FLOW
UTA struggled out of the gate, falling behind 18-13 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Mavs continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 38-24 halftime deficit.
The Lady Mavs deficit continued to grow after halftime, with UTA facing a 64-32 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter.
UTA narrowed its deficit to 75-48 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Robinson's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 75-54 with 1:12 to go in the contest. New Mexico responded and outscored the Mavericks the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 79-56. UTA took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 14 of its 24 points in the paint.
GAME NOTES
- The Lady Mavs held the Lobos to only 39.7 percent shooting from the field.
- The UT Arlington bench came alive by scoring 26 points to its scoring output.
- The UTA defense forced 18 Lobo turnovers.
- The Lady Mavs were active in affecting shots on the defensive end, tallying seven blocks as a team while limiting the Lobos to one for the game.
- UTA cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 16 offensive boards in the game.
- In her first collegiate action, freshmen Kira Reynolds led the Lady Mavs shooting with an impressive 60-percent from the floor (6-of-10).
- UTA got a team-high six rebounds from Laura Bello.
- New Mexico outrebounded UTA, 45-37.
- The Lady Mavs outscored the Lobos in the paint, 28-24.
- UTA's 18 second chance points bested UNM's 13.
- Junior Miraya Perkins chipped in with five points and five boards.
- Jeanne Rodriguez led the way for UTA with two steals.
The Lady Mavs begin the 2025-26 regular season on the road this upcoming Tuesday, Nov. 4, when they take on the Cougars of Houston from inside the Fertitta Center with a 6:30 p.m. CT tipoff.
