ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington women's basketball lost its fourth-straight Sun Belt Conference game 66-64 Saturday afternoon against the University of Louisiana at Lafayette after leading for most of the game.
Senior guard Laila Suleiman scored a UTA career-high 25 points. Fellow seniors Desherra Nwanguma and Briana Walker each scored 15 points. UTA drops to 1-14 overall and 0-4 in league play.
"Louisiana came out and pressed after the first half," UT Arlington coach Krista Gerlich said. "We talked about that at half time. We knew that's what they were going to do, and crash the boards. That's exactly what they did and we didn't handle it well."
UTA head into the locker room with a 34-28 lead over the Ragin' Cajuns.
UL started the second half with three 3-pointers from Sylvana Okde in the first minute and a half to lead 37-36. UTA regained the lead until the Cajun's took advantage of a 3-point opportunity to lead by one.
The scored continued to go back-and-forth, but the Cajun pulled ahead with a 4-point lead, 63-59, and the Mavs were unable to recover. Suleiman hit her sixth 3-pointer at the buzzer, but it wasn't enough as the Mavs fell 66-64.
The Mavericks head to San Marcos to face in-state rival Texas State Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Strahan Coliseum.
