WBB: Mavs face Arkansas State

THE GAME: UT Arlington women's basketball heads to Jonesboro, Ark this week to face Arkansas State Wednesday at 7 p.m.at the Convocation Center. The two schools met in January to open Sun Belt Competition for both teams. The Red Wolves defeated the Mavericks 66-62 in Arlington and lead the all-time series 9-5.

SCOUTING ULM: The Red Wolves are coming off a 1-point loss at UL Lafayette. Sophomore guard Aundrea Gamble leads the team with 18.3 points per game, while grabbing 6.3 rebounds per contest. Senior guard Jane Morrill and sophomore forward Jalen O'Bannon are also scoring in double figures for the Red Wolves.

LAST TIME OUT: UT Arlington women's basketball couldn't hold on to a second-half lead in Saturday evening's 54-49 to Texas State at College Park Center. UT Arlington pulled ahead to a 16-9 lead, but back-to-back 3-pointers for Texas State allowed the Bobcats to close the gap to 16-15. Both team struggled from the floor, each shooting less than 30 percent in the first half. The Mavericks were leading 45-44 before Texas State finished the game with a 10-4 run.

WHO TO WATCH: Nwanguma is leading the league with 9.7 rebounds per game, shooting 56.9 percent from the floor and averages 1.8 blocks per contest in Sun Belt play. Nwanguma scored a career-high 34 points this season when the Mavericks defeated UL Lafayette 73-54. She has recorded six double-doubles this season and leads the team is three-tenths away from averaging a double-double in league action.

GERLICH ERA: Krista Gerlich is in her first season at UTA after seven years at West Texas A&M. Gerlich compiled an impressive record of 168-53 in seven seasons at West Texas A&M. Her teams won four consecutive South Division Lone Star Conference titles from 2007-10 and three consecutive Lone Star Conference championships from 2008-10.

LINEUP CHANGE: Coach Gerlich has used five lineups in 23 games so far this season. Senior Laila Suleiman and junior transfer Tahlia Pope have remained starters in all 23 contests.

MAVERICKS IN 2013-14: UT Arlington returns eight letterwinners and two starters from last year. The Mavericks welcome two freshmen as well as four transfers (one sophomore and three juniors) for the 2013-14 season.
