ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington baseball looks for its first win of the season in a three-game series at McNeese State starting Friday.

The Mavericks (0-4) are looking to bounce back from four straight losses with the last coming at Baylor on Tuesday night, 5-2. The last time UTA started a season 0-4 was the 1990 campaign. That team went on to be crowned Southland Conference Champions and earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

UTA will face McNeese State (4-1) on Friday at 6 p.m. at Cowboy Diamond in Lake Charles, La. to open the series. The Mavs play the Cowboys on Saturday at 3 p.m. before closing out the three-game slate Sunday at 1 p.m. The winner of this series will lead the all-time contest, as it is currently tied 62-62.

UTA'S LAST TIME OUT: UT Arlington baseball fell to Baylor 5-2 in Waco on Tuesday night.

Greg McCall and Derek Miller each had RBIs to lead the UTA offense. Runs were scored by Peter Cuomo and Brady Cox, who recorded his first career start as a Maverick. Miller, Cox and Matt Shortall, the top of the lineup against Baylor, as well as pinch hitter Ryan Bottger, recorded the only UT Arlington hits in the game.

Starting pitcher Brad Vachon fell to 0-2 after allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched. Five Mavs pitched in relief with the longest showing coming from TJ Whidby, who went 1.1 innings with two walks and a strikeout.

MAVS ON A ROLL: Shortall currently owns a four-game hitting streak, while Miller has a three-game hitting streak.

In relief for the Mavs this season, Whidby has pitched 4.0 scoreless innings and Chad Nack has pitched 3.1 scoreless innings.

All-TIME AGAINST McNEESE STATE: The all-time series between UT Arlington and McNeese State is tied 62-62. In the last meeting, the Mavs defeated the Cowboys 6-5 on April 17, 2013 in Arlington.

THIRD YEAR, THIRD CONFERENCE: The Mavericks baseball team will be in their third conference in as many years with the move to the Sun Belt Conference. UTA moved from the Southland Conference in 2012 to the Western Athletic Conference in 2013.

BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPIONSHIPS: UT Arlington finished the 2013 season with 31-27 record and a share of the Western Athletic Conference regular-season title. It was UTA's second consecutive championship (2012 SLC Tournament). McCall (second-team), Shortall (first-team) and Vachon (second-team) earned All-WAC honors last season.

MAVS PICKED FIFTH IN PRESEASON: The Mavericks were picked to finish fifth in their first season in the Sun Belt Conference by league coaches.

PRESEASON PLAYER HONORS: Shortall was named to the 2014 Louisville Slugger preseason All-American third-team, as well as the preseason All-SBC team. Shortall and Vachon also earned preseason All-SBC honors from College Sports Madness.
