ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - UT Arlington freshman Aaron Guanlao sits tied for 34th and the Mavericks are 12th after the first two rounds Friday of the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate
"Aaron Guanlao did a lot of good things out there today," UT Arlington coach Jay Rees said. "Josh Radcliff really stepped up this afternoon after a tough round in the morning. Zach Galliford competed consistently all day."
Guanlao shot a pair of 2-over-par 74s (148) at the UNM Championship Course. Zach Galliford is tied for 40th after tallying a 149 through two rounds. Andrew Cornella (T55, 152), Jake Argento (T63, 153) and Josh Radcliff (T66, 154) round out the UTA fivesome. Radcliff followed up an 81 with a 1-over 73 in the second round.
"We are not consistent enough for all five guys yet," Rees said. "We got off to a great start the second round and we just were not consistent tee to green to last nine holes of the round.
"It's a hard pill to swallow, but we are in the right mindset and we are committed to getting better tomorrow. I look forward to see how the guys take on this challenge tomorrow."
The Mavericks shot a 297 in the second round, which was a 5-shot improvement from the opening 18 holes and the ninth-best showing in the afternoon. The third and find round is Saturday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. MT.
