LAS CRUCES, New Mexico - Josh Radcliff is tied for second after Monday's first two rounds of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate. The Mavericks are ninth in the team standings.
Radcliff shot a 1-under-par 141 through 36 holes at the NM State Golf Course. The junior rebounded from a 1-over 72 in the morning round by firing a 2-under 69 in the afternoon. Radcliff is tied with two others three shots back of leader Mans Berglund from Lamar.
"After a great week of practice and a good practice round, the team was looking forward to a great day," UTA coach Stuart Deane. "We ran into an issue with Zach Galliford straining a muscle in his forearm. Going into the second round, the team responded great knowing that the four scores count. We are proud of the effort.
"Josh Radcliff is on track to have his best ever finish. We have seen this coming and we are not surprised with his play. Putting his plan into action we are looking forward to a good outcome for Josh. We had some great positives for team today through adversity."
UTA is plus 21 as a team with a two-round total of 589. The Mavericks shaved seven shots off their first round score with a 291 in the afternoon, which was the sixth-best second round.
Aaron Guanlao is tied for 18th with a 3-over 145. Jake Greenspoon (T46, 150) and Tanner Gore (T80, 158) were the other two team scorers.
Galliford withdrew after a first-round 76 due to a strained left forearm. Harrison Moore is tied for 23rd at plus-4 146 competing as an individual.
UTEP leads the team standings at 4 over. The third and final round begins Tuesday morning with a 9:30 a.m. CT shotgun start.
