ARLINGTON, Texas -- The awards continue for UT Arlington freshman center Rebekah VanDijk. The Nazareth, Texas native was named to the 2015 Full Court NCAA Division I Women's Mid-Major Freshman All-American team.
VanDijk, earning the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year award, led all Division I freshmen with 15 double-doubles in 2014-15 and was one of two overall in the conference to average a double-double. VanDijk helped lead the Lady Mavericks to the largest turnaround in NCAA Division I as UTA increased its win total by 13 games from the previous season.
"It is just a tribute to her and her hard work and coachability," UT Arlington coach Krista Gerlich said after she was named the conference's Freshman of the Year. "She is a great teammate and her teammates love her so they just want to feed her the ball. She just works hard and wants to do it right. I am just excited that she got recognized for her contribution this year."
VanDijk averaged 13.2 points and 10.4 rebounds a game. Her 298 rebounds are seventh all-time in UTA single-season history.
VanDijk was the lone Lady Maverick to be selected to the conference's All-Conference teams, as she was an All-SBC second team honoree.
Others selected to the FullCourt.com first team were Maddy Dean (Drake), Ashunae Durant (Hofstra), Funda Nakkasoglu (Utah State) and Charise Wilson (Rhode Island).
