ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington is set to resume Sun Belt play this weekend as it travels to Lafayette, La. to take on Louisiana in a three-game series set to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday.

"We know we've got our hands full," UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. "It's a tough place to play and they're used to winning and know how to win. We've won three of our last four conference games and played well on Tuesday at Texas A&M so I expect us to play well. We know we need to win some series coming down the stretch here."

The Mavericks and the Ragin' Cajuns will square off for the first time since the 2014 Sun Belt Championship finals where UTA fell 6-5. The Mavs held an early three-run lead and hit three home runs against the Ragin' Cajuns, who led the nation in wins and were ranked as high as second in several major polls. However, UTA came up short as Louisiana's Blake Trahan registered a home run over the left-field wall to seal the final margin of victory at one run.

The Mavs  appear to be breaking out of a funk that saw wins in three out of fourteen games, while hitting .234 as a team and being outscored by its opponents 75-55. UT Arlington also had just three players who hit over .300 during that stretch, while allowing their opponents to hit .322.

The past four games have been a different story for UTA, outhiting its opponents .364 to .322 and recording 11 more runs. The offensive improvement has been seen from top to bottom for the Mavs as nine players have hit over .300 during that four-game stretch with six players over .400.

Leading the way for UTA over the past four games has been Cody Farrell and Jackson Morris. Farrell has gone 5-for-10 with three RBI and two runs with a slugging percentage of .600. Morris has registered a .455 average to go along with six RBI and a slugging percentage of .818.

This weekend's matchup between UTA and Louisiana will pit two teams with difficult schedules against each other. The Mavericks hold the 29th toughest schedule according to Warren Nolan RPI, while the Ragin' Canjuns schedule rates as the 40th toughest in the NCAA. UTA's 2015 slate includes nine games against RPI top-15 teams.

The Mavericks and Ragin' Cajuns will open up the series at "Tigue" Moore Field with a 6 p.m. game on Friday night. Saturday's game schedule to begin at 6 p.m. will be broadcast on ESPN3 with Dave Schultz and Kevin Cantrelle on the call.
