PLANO, Texas - UT Arlington assistant golf coach Casey Devoll captured the National Car Rental NTPGA Assistant Championship on Monday after firing rounds of 67-66 for a 133, 11-under par total. Devoll bested Greg Gregory, assistant professional at Hidden Creek Golf Club, by one stroke to claim the Championship.
After finishing the first round at 5-under par, carding five birdies and no bogeys, Devoll continued his great play into the afternoon, notching two eagles, five more birdies and three bogeys in the final round.
"I am a bit worn out after the 36 holes, but it always feels good to win," Devoll said after his rounds. "I am really looking forward to the National event."
This victory marks Devoll's first Assistant Championship title and second individual Northern Texas PGA major championship. He took home a $900 check for his win.
Devoll will lead three other assistant professionals from the Northern Texas Section to the 39th National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship. Also advancing was Gregory, Shane Pearce, assistant professional at Hurricane Creek Country Club, and John Wagner, teaching professional at GolfTEC - North Dallas. The Championship is slated for October 29 - November 1, 2015 on the Wanamaker Course at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
The National Car Rental NTPGA Assistant Championship was conducted at The Courses at Watters Creek - Traditions Course, a 7,015-yard par 72 course located in Plano. A field of 59 assistant golf professionals competed for a share of the $6,500 purse. Forty-seven professionals were attempting to qualify for the National Championship.
