ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington men's tennis returned to winning form on Saturday, winning 7-0 over Dallas Baptist and 6-1 over DePaul at the UTA Tennis Center.
The Mavericks improved to 2-3 on the season after sweeping their home-opening doubleheader. UTA dropped just one match out of 17 played.
"Today showed off the hard work in the last couple of days of practice," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "We played really solid from the beginning. We had a great doubles game. We had to deal with some adversity at the beginning of the matches and the team was able to hang in there and pull off a win against a really great team."
UTA opened the day by making quick work of Dallas Baptist. The Mavs picked up the doubles point with wins by the pair of Daniel Armengol and Jhonathan Gonzalez as well as Mario Muniesa and Guanarteme Nuez. The match in the top pair was unfinished.
The Mavs kept the momentum in singles to sweep through the Patriots.
In the days second match, UTA defeated Big East opponent DePaul with a 6-1 decision. Nuez improved to a team-best 3-1 on the season with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 2 position.
UTA continues with its four-game homestand with a doubleheader on Feb. 6 against Cameron and Seminole. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
