DALLAS, Texas - UT Arlington's Tanner Gore and Aaron Guanlao led the Mavericks golf team on the first day of competition at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate at Royal Oaks Country Club.

The duo each turned in a 36-hole score of 3-over par 145 and enter tomorrow's final round tied with six other golfers in a tie for 30th place in the 72-golfer field.

UTA is in 10th place after the first two rounds at 23-over par 733, 10 strokes ahead of 11th place SMU. Host Baylor, ranked No. 14 nationally, is running away with the team event at 27-under par, 29 strokes ahead of runner-up New Mexico.

The teams return to the 7,068-yard, par 71 Royal Oaks Country Club tomorrow morning with tee times beginning at 8:15 a.m. Admission is free to the public.

After turning in a 3-over par 74 in the morning's first round, Guanlao rebounded early in the afternoon with a pair of birdies in his first four holes. He moved to 3-under with a birdie on No. 6 before, ultimately, finishing at even par 71.

Junior Nick Barney is tied for 44th overall with rounds of 72-75 for a 5-over par 147. Seniors Zach Galliford and Josh Radcliff completed the day tied for 54th at 7-over par, while junior Will Dennisis in 68th place at 12-over par.

Following the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, the Mavericks will play their final tournament of the fall season Oct. 30-Nov. 1 at the Duck Commander Intercollegiate at Mystic Creek Golf Club in El Dorado, Ark. The team will play six regular season tournaments during the spring, prior to the April 23-25 Sun Belt Championships in Miramar Beach, Fla.
