ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington volleyball protected its house and swept Little Rock in the quarterfinals of the 2016 SBC Volleyball Championship Friday night at College Park Center.
UTA (17-15) extended its win streak to four matches, claiming three straight in Arlington. The Mavericks ended their regular season conference slate with a 10-6 mark, good for fourth in the league standings. No. 5 Little Rock's 2016 campaign came to an end at 12-18 overall and 8-8 in the Sun Belt.
KEY RUN
Little Rock built up a 12-5 lead in Set 2, but a slew of attack errors and powerful hitting from UTA withered the Trojans down to a 12-1 run that ultimately swung momentum in the overall match. The Mavs would go on to grab the second frame 25-21.
PLAYERS OF THE MATCH
SBC second team All-Conference selection Qiana Canete notched a double-double in the form of 17 kills and 12 digs. Geathers hit .400 with five kills and six blocks. Taylor Murata registered 21 digs.
RECORD WATCH
Murata moved into seventh on UTA's season digs list, replacing Dani Johnson's 540 mark in 2007. Murata broke the program's milestone for freshman digs in a win over ULM on Nov. 12.
