Nov. 29, 2016 NEW ORLEANS - UTA junior center Rebekah VanDijk was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week, the second consecutive Lady Maverick to earn the honor, the league office announced on Tuesday. VanDijk was named the College Sports Madness National Mid-Major Player of the Week on Monday.
VanDijk had a career weekend as she led the Lady Mavericks to a SHU Thanksgiving Classic championship and a 5-0 record. VanDijk poured in 34 points in the championship game against Seton Hall, a career best and tied for fourth in UTA single-game history, as she was named the tournament's MVP. She grabbed 11 rebounds in the contest for her third double-double of the season.
In the semi-final, she had a team-high 14 points in a defensive battle that saw the Lady Mavs lead wire-to-wire.
For the week, she averaged 24.0 points per game, shooting 72.4 percent from the field (21-29) and average 8.0 rebounds in the two wins.
