Dec. 13, 2016 NEW ORLEANS - UTA junior center Rebekah VanDijk earned her second Sun Belt Player of the Week award of the season, the league office announced on Tuesday.
VanDijk averaged 15.0 points and seven rebounds a game over the week as UTA split games against Kansas State and Eastern New Mexico. Against the Greyhounds, VanDijk jumped into UTA's all-time top-10 list for rebounds as she has 644 in her career.
"Rebekah continues to be a huge presence in our offense and defense, but particularly on the boards, which is a big reason for our success," UTA coach Krista Gerlich said. "I'm proud of her production this season thus far and her leadership is being seen more and more each game. This is another great honor for Rebekah."
VanDijk was named the conference's player of the week on Nov. 29, joining Christina Devers as UTA's other season selection (Nov. 21). UTA has captured three of the five awards thus far.
VanDijk scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a midweek matchup against (RV) Kansas State. She followed it with 16 points against Eastern New Mexico in just 20 minutes of action.
The Lady Mavericks (6-2) return to action on Sunday when they close the home nonconference portion of the slate against Texas A&M-Commerce at 5 p.m.
