Postgame Quotes

UT Arlington Head Coach Krista Gerlich

On returning to Texas Tech…
"It was great to see a lot of people and it was fun to be back in Lubbock. I was mostly just excited for our kids to have the opportunity to play here."

On what to build on off the loss…
"Our kids always fight hard and they will always play hard. We were a little shell-shocked early and they were hot from the three-point line and we could've done some things different. The last three quarters I think we outscored them. When our kids look back and see that we outscored them the final three quarters. If we don't spot them 20, 25 points in that first quarter, then we were right there with them. We won't give up and will continue to battle. Our kids played hard."

On the first quarter …
"We are a pressing team. We are smaller, although we have Rebekah VanDijk on the inside, our 1-thru-4 is small and quick. We'd been using that. It wasn't very effective in the first quarter. We didn't follow our gameplan and how we wanted to attack them and they made us pay. We are a team that likes to cause turnovers in order to score in transition. So that really effected us in the first quarter."

On how TTU played UTA & the Lady Raiders star Recee Caldwell …
"To be quite honest, they just took us out of our press, which actually was our own fault because our kids weren't sending them to the sideline to dictate the pressure the way we wanted too. I also think they knocked down some big shots. They were very hot from the three-point line to begin with. Clearly we knew (Recee) Caldwell could shoot it and we weren't following our gameplan as well as we needed to. It took our kids a little while. You just can't simulate a player like her in practice. There is just no way to do that. As much as we were telling our team that she has a really quick release and she has great step backs and we were really wanting to force her right and to just not give her space. We were giving her space and she made us pay for that and that's why she's a great player."
