TROY, Ala. - UTA puts its undefeated Sun Belt record on the line on Saturday against fellow unblemished Troy in a matchup featured on ESPN3.
The Lady Mavericks, tipping off at 2 p.m., stretched its conference record to 4-0 on Thursday with a 71-49 victory over South Alabama, moving to 11-3 overall. The Trojans had a closer contest with Texas State on the way to their own 4-0 record and a 11-4 overall mark.
"It is going to be a great game at Troy in two teams that like to press and get up and down the floor," UTA coach Krista Gerlich said. "It is going to be a great game to watch. I certainly hope that I enjoy watching it on the sidelines."
Along with the ESPN3 broadcast, UTA will feature its Mavs All-Access call with team play-by-play announcer Amanda Kent behind the microphone. Subscriptions to Mavs All-Access start at $9.99 a month and include access to all Lady Maverick games.
Thursday's big win over the Jaguars gave UTA plenty of confidence on the offensive side as the team shot better than 50 percent from the field for the first time this season. The Lady Mavs also knocked down 10 3-pointers, its most since connecting on 11 to begin the season.
It was a milestone evening for junior center Rebekah VanDijk and junior guard Cierra Johnson. VanDijk became just the 18th player in UTA history to join the 1,000-point club on the way to her 33rd-career double-double. VanDijk is tied for fifth amongst active NCAA student-athletes with her double-double total. Johnson picked up four steals to reach 200 in her career. She is 22nd in the NCAA in career steals, and the only junior to be in the top 25.
