ARLINGTON, Texas - The Lady Mavericks look to continue their dominance on home court when they host ULM on Saturday at 2 p.m. on ESPN3.
UTA (12-4, 5-1 SBC) has won its last five at College Park Center and are 7-1 at home this season, its lone defeat to SFA in December. Also on the books for Saturday, the Lady Mavs are seeking to clinch an accomplishment they haven't done since the 1977-78 season, posting a winning record in each of the first three months of the season.
Behind a huge second half offensively, the Lady Mavs defeated Louisiana on Thursday night, and are hoping to continue the momentum in closing a brief two-game homestand
"We are taking from this game to start better in the first half," UTA guard Ericka Mattingly said after the game against UL. "We were very loud and energetic (against the Ragin' Cajuns) and that just makes the game fun."
UTA shot 59.3 percent from the field in the second half and bolstered an offense that saw four in double figures. Cierra Johnson was just one rebound shy of UTA's third all-time triple-double as she finished with 24 points, 11 assists and nine boards. The 11 assists are tied for seventh in single-game history and pushed her to the 200 mark in her career. Johnson is just the seventh player to have more than 200 steals and 200 assists in the UTA record books.
Mattingly was equally as impressive as the freshman guard had her second consecutive big game defensively. Following picking up seven steals against Troy, Mattingly topped the mark with eight on Thursday, tied for second in UTA single-game history. Mattingly and Johnson share five of the top 10 game efforts. The defensive effort has helped UTA turn its opponent over at least 20 times in 12 of the last 13 games, and are 15th in the nation at more than 22 a game.
