June 22, 2017 ARLINGTON, Texas -- UTA senior right-handed starting pitcher Kadon Simmons has signed a free-agent contract with the Milwaukee Brewers, it was announced on Thursday morning.
Simmons, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound product of Cut & Shoot, Texas, becomes the fourth member of the 2017 UTA roster to be picked in the 2017 MLB Draft or sign a free-agent professional contract. Austin Gardner (ninth round), Jakob Hernandez (21st round) and Brady Cox (36th round) were picked last week in the MLB Draft, giving the Mavs a draft pick in nine consecutive seasons.
A product of Caney Creek High School and North Central Texas Community College, Simmons had an elite two years at UTA. Simmons earned first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors after leading the league with nine wins in 2016. He finished with a 9-4 record and a 3.05 ERA in 103.1 innings, allowing 95 hits and 24 walks, striking out 64.
As a senior in 2017, Simmons went 7-4 with a 4.36 ERA in 86.2 innings, allowing 20 walks and striking out 51. Combined over his career, Simmons went 16-8 with a 3.65 ERA in 190 innings, striking out 115.
