Volleyball Heads To Georgia To Continue Sun Belt Play

ARLINGTON, Texas - The UTA volleyball team will continue Sun Belt play with a pair of matches on the road at Georgia State (Oct. 5) and Georgia Southern (Oct. 7) this weekend.

LAST TIME OUT | UTA AT TEXAS STATE (OCT. 2)
The Mavericks dropped a heartbreaker (3-2) at Texas State on Oct. 2. UTA jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the match (25-20, 25-22), but Texas State responded with a 25-10 win in the third set and rode the momentum to secure a 3-2 comeback victory (25-20, 25-22, 10-25, 21-25, 8-15) and remain unbeaten in conference play (5-0).

Zhanelle Geathers was the lone Maverick in double figures offensively, finishing with a season-high 18 kills and a .308 hitting percentage. Alex Janak finished with 25 assists and 11 digs to secure her fourth consecutive double-double (eighth overall). Madison Hill, the league leader in hitting percentage, registered nine kills with a .333 percentage.

SCOUTING GEORGIA STATE
The Panthers have dropped eight of the last 10 matches and are 1-2 in Sun Belt play. GSU fell at South Alabama 3-0 (18-25, 18-25, 20-25) on Sept. 29. Crystal Lee led the Panthers with 10 kills, while Lauren Bandera added 10 digs.

On the season, Lee has a team-high 137 kills (3.04 k/s), with Sydney Stroud (2.28 k/s) ranking second on the squad with 105. Sarah Renner runs the offense and has recorded a team-high 337 assists (8.43 a/s). Defensively, five Panthers have at least 80 digs, led by Bandera (127; 3.17 d/s), Kinkaid Padgett (105; 2.50 d/s) and Lee (102; 2.27 d/s).

SCOUTING GEORGIA SOUTHERN
The Eagles have won six of their last seven matches and are riding a three-match winning streak. In their last outing, the Eagles defeated Savannah State 3-1 (25-15, 25-18, 23-25, 25-17).

Georgia Southern ranks eighth in the country in total blocks, and Lauren Reichard has 441 career blocks, which ranks 14th among the NCAA's active career leaders. She is 22 blocks away from becoming Georgia Southern's all-time leader and currently ranks 12th in the country in total blocks. Lauren Hager ranks 19th.

GS set a school record with 23 blocks in a 4-set match in their 3-1 win at Troy Sept. 30. Hager tied the school individual mark with 12 blocks in the match.

NEXT UP FOR THE MAVS
The Mavericks will return to the College Park Center next weekend for a pair of Sun Belt contests. UTA will welcome Coastal Carolina to Arlington on Oct. 12 (6:30 p.m.), followed by a 6:30 p.m. contest against Appalachian State on Oct. 13.

The Mavs will host 13 total home matches at the gorgeous College Park Center, including a pair of tournaments to open the home slate. UTA will welcome Air Force, Loyola Maryland, Binghamton, Grand Canyon, Belmont and Sam Houston State for tournaments before hosting seven Sun Belt Conference games. All student tickets are free for all athletic home events. Students are asked to scan their UTA Student ID. 
 
Season tickets are available for $50, while single-game tickets can be purchased for $6 and group tickets (10 or more) at $3. Season tickets will go on sale Monday, July 23 at 10 am at UTAtickets.com while single game tickets are expected to go on sale in early August.
