LAFAYETTE, La. – Four Lady Mavericks scored in double figures as the UTA women's basketball team overcame early turnover woes to pick up a 76-61 win over Louisiana on Tuesday night at the Cajundome.
With the win, UTA improves to 15-5 overall (7-2 SBC), while Louisiana falls to 5-14 on the season and 3-5 in conference play.
The Lady Mavs, who committed four turnovers in the first five minutes of the game and finished with 16 total, shot 50.9 percent (29-of-57) from the floor, 40 percent (6-of-15) from long distance and knocked down 12-of-16 shots (75 percent) from the charity stripe, while the Ragin' Cajuns were forced into 20 turnovers and made just 18-of-47 (38.3 percent) shots from the field and 2-of-12 (16.7 percent) attempts from behind the arc.
Claire Chastain finished with a game-high 17 points in 24 minutes. The freshman shot 7-of-12 from the floor and 2-of-3 from the free-throw line. She also added two boards and a pair of steals on the night.
Cierra Johnson nearly picked up her third double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Aysia Evans chipped in with 13 points off the bench, while
Terryn Milton registered 10 points and seven boards.
The Lady Mavericks outscored Louisiana 21-12 in the fourth quarter, including a 9-0 run towards the end of final quarter that put the game out of reach and handed the Ragin' Cajuns their third straight Sun Belt Conference loss.
UTA returns to the court on Saturday, Feb. 2 when they host Texas State in SBC action at College Park Center. Tip-off for the contest is set for 2 p.m.
