JONESBORO, Ark. – The UT Arlington volleyball team was on the wrong side of a sweep, as the Mavs lost to Arkansas State 3-0 (17-25, 23-25, 23-25) on the road Saturday night.
UTA (10-6, 2-2 SBC) started hot in the first set, jumping out to a 6-3 lead, behind three Arkansas State (11-5, 2-2 SBC) errors. The Red Wolves stabilized themselves by winning the next four points and eventually pulled ahead to win the set.
In the second set, neither team led by more than two points and the Mavs, up 23-22, found themselves two points from tying the match. However, Arkansas State won the final three points of the set to take a 2-0 lead.
The Red Wolves got out to a 20-13 lead in the third set, but the Mavs fought back to get to within a point at 24-23. The comeback bid fell short, though, as an Arkansas State kill on the next point ended the match.
As she did in Friday's match,
Brooke Townsend led the Mavs in kills with 11. She and
Bre Walp each accounted for a team-leading 12 points.
Madison Hill finished with 10 kills, while
Meredith Fisher and
Kylie Jedlicka finished with three kills apiece. Hill also led all players with 5 blocks.
Jessica Stancliff had a match-high 24 assists.
