DENTON, Texas – Senior transfer
Marie Benson scored her 1,000th career point as the UTA women's basketball team led wire-to-wire and earned its first road win of the season on Friday night, defeating UNT 68-49, inside The Super Pit.
With the win, UTA improves to 2-0 overall, while North Texas falls to 1-2 on the season.
Benson finished with a game-high 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field. She also added 12 boards to register her 28th career double-double.
Claire Chastain added 12 points, six rebounds and 4 steals, while
Bre Wickware chipped in with 10 points, 4 rebounds and four assists.
Misty Dossey nearly recorded a double-double with 9 points and 9 rebounds, while
Camryn Hawkins finished with 8 points.
UTA finished the evening shooting 40.3 percent from the floor (27-of-67), while holding North Texas to just 25.4 percent from the field (15-of-39).
The Lady Mavs started the game on a 12-4 run and never looked back, as they increased their lead to as many as 28 points, before cruising to the 68-49 win.
The Lady Mavs will now be back in action on Monday, Nov. 18, when they head to Louisiana. to battle Grambling. Tip-off for the matchup is 7:00 p.m.
