Milton's Career Night Leads @UTAMavsWBB To Huge Win At K-State

MANHATTAN, Kansas – Led by Terryn Milton's career-high 18 points, the UTA women's basketball team knocked off Big XII foe Kansas State, 57-53, on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 24) at Bramlage Coliseum.

With the win, the Lady Mavericks remain undefeated (4-0) and snap K-State's (3-1) 10-game home winning streak over non-conference opponents. The win also gives the Lady Mavs their first win over a Power 5 school since 2006. UTA's last win over a Power 5 program came on Dec. 29, 2006 when they defeated Ole Miss, 66-55, at the Tulane Classic.

The Lady Mavs have held all four of their opponents this season below 55 points, while also limiting each of them to less than 31 percent shooting from the floor. UTA has also forced their first four opponents into 14+ turnovers.

Milton shot 8-of-13 from the field to finish with her career-best and game-high 18 points. The sophomore also added five boards, one assist and one steal in the win. Marie Benson chipped in with 16 points, three steals, two blocks and a pair of rebounds, while Claire Chastain added 14 points, two boards and a pair of dimes. Katie Ferrell recorded seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals and Katie Mayhue, who made her UTA debut, knocked down a triple and pulled down a rebounds in 12 minutes of action.

UTA held K-State to a season-low 25.0 percent (17-of-68) from the field, while the Lady Mavs knocked down 38.3 percent (23-of-60) of their shots from the field. The Wildcats held a 53-33 advantage on the boards and UTA forced K-State into 23 turnovers.

In the first half, UTA used a 16-4 run in the second quarter to take a 12-point lead (32-20) into the locker room at the half. Kansas State's 20 first half points were their fewest since scoring 16 at West Virginia last season.

Leading 43-34 entering the final period, the Lady Mavs were able to push their lead to 14 points (50-36) with 7:17 to play in regulation. A UTA scoring drought and a K-State 15-4 run cut UTA's lead down to just 3 points (54-51) with 42 seconds to play.

UTA response came from Milton, who knocked down clutch jumper with 12 seconds remaining to push their lead back to five points (56-51).

K-State scored quickly to get back within three (56-53), but Chastain split a pair of free-throws to close out the game and give UTA the 57-53 win.

The Lady Mavs will now head to the virgin islands to compete in three neutral site games (vs. #8 Louisville, vs. #1 Oregon, vs. Oklahoma State) for the 2019 Paradise Jam (Nov. 28-30). The Lady Mavericks open the event with a matchup against the Cardinals at 12:00 p.m. CT on Thursday, Nov. 28, before battling the Ducks on Friday Nov. 29 (2:15 p.m. CT). UTA's final game will serve as the tournament's first mother-daughter rivalry as 2019 Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year Krista Gerlich will face her daughter Bryn Gerlich and Oklahoma State for the first time in either of their collegiate careers. This matchup will take place on Sunday, Nov. 30 at noon CT.

All games during the tournament will be played at the University of the Virgin Islands Sports and Fitness Center and will be streamed live at FloHoops.com. To access the live event coverage and replays of the Paradise Jam, users must sign up to become FloPRO subscribers ($) on FloHoops.com.
