ARLINGTON, Texas - The UTA women's basketball team led for nearly 37 minutes of the game, en route to a 67-62 victory over Arkansas State on Saturday afternoon at the College Park Center.
With the win, UTA improves to 19-6 overall (11-3 SBC) and have now won seven of their last eight games, while Arkansas State falls to 9-15 on the season and 4-9 in conference play.
Cierra Johnson led the Lady Mavs with a game-high 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor, 1-of-2 from behind the arc and 5-of-7 from the free-throw line. C. Johnson also added five rebounds and five assists on the afternoon.
Katie Ferrell recorded her second career double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. Ferrell also tallied four assists and four steals.
Terryn Milton chipped in with eight points and five dimes, while
Claire Chastain and
Brooke Alexander added seven points each.
Lauren Billie, who sealed the win with a huge trey with 19 seconds remaining, finished with six points
UTA struggled shooting the ball on the day, knocking down just 38.5 percent (25-of-65) of their shots from the floor. The Red Wolves shot the ball at a 40 percent clip and outrebounded the home team (42-34), but were forced into 16 turnovers and limited to just 17.6 percent (3-of-17) on three-point attempts. Â
The Lady Mavericks return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 23 when they travel to Monroe, La. to battle the Warhawks of ULM (8-15, 2-10 SBC). Tip-off for that weekend matchup is set for 2 p.m.
