HUMBLE, Texas – On a day when scoring was up nearly a stroke-and-a-half from Sunday's opening round at the All-American Intercollegiate, the UT Arlington men's golf team sits in a tie for 13th place after the second round at the Golf Club of Houston.
 
Kyle Cox and Camilo Avila both led the Mavericks with rounds of 75 on Monday as UTA finished with a 309 team total and possesses a 604 two-round cumulative score entering Tuesday's final round.
 
The Mavs are just six strokes out of the top 10 as Sam Houston State leads the competitive field with a 573 total – the only team under par after 36 holes. The Bearkats hold a five-stroke edge on Baylor and Houston, which is co-hosting the event with Rice on the par-72, 7096-yard layout which has played host to the PGA Tour's Houston Open since 2003.
 
Paul Gonzalez (79), Tanner Gore (80) and Caleb Hicks (84) rounded out the UTA scoring for the day. Cox leads the lineup with a 149 total through two rounds, while Avila is close behind with a 150 total.
 
Gonzalez rolled in four more birdies on Monday to bring his total for the week to seven – tied for the 12th-most in the field of 83. Cox, meanwhile, posted a 3-under score on the par 5s – tied for the 9th-best in the field.
 
After surrendering a scoring average of 74.13 on Sunday, the average score increased to 75.57 on Monday; more holes (six compared with five) actually played under par in the second round, but those which didn't played much harder than Sunday.
 
All 14 schools in the field are ranked inside the top 155 of the nation; six of those reside in the top 100 and three are in the top 50.
 
Final-round action is scheduled to get underway on Tuesday for the Mavs, beginning with tee times off the 10th hole at 8:45 a.m. Hicks will be first off, followed by Gore at 8:54, Gonzalez at 9:03, Avila at 9:12 and Cox at 9:21. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat by clicking here.
