ARLINGTON, Texas – The UTA University women's basketball team received eight votes in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 Poll that was released on Tuesday, Feb. 5.
This marks the second time this season that the Lady Mavericks have received votes in the Mid-Major Poll. UTA (8 votes) is one of four Sun Belt Conference schools to appear in the Mid-Major Poll along with South Alabama (RV; 46), Troy (RV; 44) and Little Rock (RV; 14).
Gonzaga took the top spot in the poll with 29 first-place votes and 773 points, while South Dakota moved up to second with 738 points. FGCU (682 points), South Dakota State (664 points) and Drake (646 points) rounded out the top-five.
The Lady Mavs are 16-5 on the season and are currently in second place in the Sun Belt with an 8-2 record in the league. UTA's resume has been boosted by four straight victories and ranking as one of the top-3 offensive and defensive teams in the Sun Belt Conference. In 21 games this season, the Lady Mavericks have held 10 opponents below 60 points.
UTA is slated to take on Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C. at 5 p.m. CT on Thursday, Feb. 7, before heading to Boone, N.C. to face App State on Saturday, Feb. 9 (1 p.m. CT).
The CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top-25 is now in its ninth season of existence. The poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast, Western Athletic and is voted on by a panel of 31 coaches.
