FORT WORTH, Texas – UTA opened its 2019 outdoor track and field season with a number of strong individual performances Saturday at the TCU Invitational.

Highlighting the day was
Rhiley Fritz, who matched her own school record in the women's javelin with a throw of 152-7 (46.50m). The sophomore placed second in the event.

On the men's side, UTA took home the top two spots in the men's 400 meters.
Brenden Wallace won the race with a time of 47.32, while
D'Undre Mitchell was second in 47.50. Mitchell later took sixth in the 200m (21.49).

Deontre Haynes also starred for the Mavericks' sprints crew. He claimed the bronze position in both the 100 meters and 200 meters with impressive opening week times of 10.51 and 21.09, respectively.

In the distance events,
Brady Steele took second place in the 5000 meters (15:21.21).
Connor Butterfield snagged a third-place finish, as he ran the 800m in 1:53.70.

For the women,
Bailey Balmer won the women's 5000 meters with a time of 19:08.99, while
Mackenzie Molina was second in the 400m hurdles (1:06.10). Other high finishes came from
Madeleine Rowe in the 800m (4th, 2:17.60) and Chante Matthews in the long jump (5th, 18-7 ¾).

UTA will return to action next weekend at the UTA Bobby Lane Invitational. Action will take place on Friday and Saturday at Maverick Stadium.
