COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Day one of the 2025 NCAA West Regional is in the books for four members of the UT Arlington men's track and field team from E.B. Cushing Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M.
After a quick lightning delay which kicked off the meet, the meet resumed with all but the first event of the day starting as scheduled.
Senior
Randon Gray's quest to return to Eugene fell just short, finishing tied for 15th in the men's pole vault, just shy of the qualifying top 12. Gray participated in the first of two flights and breezed through 5.02m and 5.17m heights, clearing them both on his first attempt. Gray could not clear 5.32m, falling just short on all three of his attempts. The 5.17m he finished with was his sixth best mark of the outdoor season and better then the 5.09m he won the gold at the 2025 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.
In his first trip to a west regional,
Hayden Wilson wrapped up his junior campaign finishing 32nd overall in the men's shot put. The WAC champion's best throw came on his first attempt where he launched it 17.71m which is tied for his fourth best throw of the outdoor season.
In the first round of the men's 800m,
Kash Powell and
Alex Kalmar wrapped up their first outdoor season donning the blue and orange. Kalmar finished 35th overall with a time of 1:49.84 in his first ever trip to the west regionals while Powell finished 42nd overall with a time of 1:51.11 in his third trip to the west regionals, his first two coming back when he competed for Long Beach State.
