Whitney Walton reached on a walk before advancing to third base where she scored with a
Reagan Wright sacrifice fly. However, that would be the lone run scored for the Mavericks as Leanna Johnson tightened her grip in the circle.
Â
After holding the Trojans scoreless in the first inning, Phillips left one over the plate, allowing Bailey Taylor to drive the ball over the left field fence to tie the game at one.
Â
Troy had a chance in the sixth inning to take the lead, with the first two Trojans reaching base from singles. However, Phillips buckled down and forced three straight fly outs to escape the inning.
Â
In the top of the seventh, UTA was threating with a runner on third base, but a ground out and strikeout ended the inning to keep it tied at one.
Â
After a one-two-three inning in the top of the eight, the Trojans put two base runners on off two singles. A batter latter, Kaylee Hussey drove a ball to left center to drive home the baserunner on second to win the game 2-1.
