MONROE, La. – UTA snapped their five-game losing streak and picked up a split in a Saturday doubleheader with ULM at Warhawk Field.
Both teams finished with 22 hits on the day. The Warhawks were more efficient in the field, going both games without committing an error. UTA committed three errors in the second game and committed four on the day.
With the split UTA moves to 29-19 overall and 15-8 in league play, while ULM is now 21-25 on the season and 9-13 in SBC action.
GAME 1
The Mavs got out of the blocks quickly in game one when
Dylan Paul grounded into a double play, but was able to drive
Josh Minjarez home from third to give UTA a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
ULM responded quickly with an RBI-single to tie things at 1-1.
The Mavs added another run in the third, when
Anthony Dominguez hit into a fielder's choice, scoring
Connor Aube (2-1).
The teams would play even over the next few innings, until the top of the ninth, when the Mavs blew the game open by scoring eight runs in the frame. An RBI-double from
Andrew Miller, a two-run double from Minjarez and a grand slam from Aube highlighted the big inning for the Mavericks as they cruised to the 10-2 win in Game 1.
GAME 2
In game two, UTA was outhit 13-7 as the Warhawks picked up the 8-0 shutout victory.
Big innings in the third and fifth innings lifted ULM to the win.
The rubber match between the two squads is set for Saturday afternoon (5 p.m.)
