Pro Mavs Updates: Haynes Wins Italian Championship; Hervey, Hamilton Ready For NBA Summer League

ARLINGTON – Highlighted by MarQuez Haynes leading his team to a second Lega Basket Serie A (LBA) Championship in Italy, a trio of former UT Arlington men's basketball standouts continue to excel in their professional playing careers.

Former teammates Kevin Hervey and Johnny Hamilton recently completed their inaugural seasons in the NBA's G League, and both have made NBA Summer League rosters. Hervey will be playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder, while Hamilton will be suiting up for the Milwaukee Bucks. More info on both Hervey and Hamilton is included later in this release.

MARQUEZ HAYNES
As for Haynes, the 2010 graduate recently concluded his third season with Umana Reyer Venezia in the LBA – the highest level of Italian professional basketball – and wrapped up a second Italian League championship in three years as he also helped lead the club to a title in his initial season in Venice in 2016-17.

A native of Irving who spent his final two collegiate seasons with UTA from 2008-10, Haynes averaged 9.4 points, 3 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game last year as Reyer's captain, but increased his scoring in the LBA playoffs as he averaged 11.7 en route to the championship.

The 2010 Southland Conference Player of the Year as a senior with the Mavericks, Haynes set a program single-season scoring record which still stands of 22.6 points per game. He began his collegiate career at Boston College, but upon returning home he scored an incredible 1,174 points in just two seasons (60 games) – good enough to rank him 15th on UTA's all-time scoring list and 1st among any two-year tenure. His 19.6 per-game scoring average is the best in UTA history among players who have played at least 60 games.

KEVIN HERVEY
The highest NBA Draft pick in program history when he was taken with the 57th pick in the Second Round last June by the Thunder, Hervey will be embarking on his second NBA Summer League. He played in five games for the Thunder last July, averaging 7.2 points in 13.2 minutes per game.

Hervey spent last year in the G League with the Oklahoma City Blue, averaging 10.9 points and 6.7 rebounds over 32 games in which he earned 15 starts. The 2017 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, Hervey also averaged an impressive 1.8 points, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks per game last year as a rookie in the G League (formerly the NBA Development League).

The most overall decorated player in program history, Hervey finished as the program's all-time rebounding leader (921) and 2nd in points (1,783) from 2014-18.

JOHNNY HAMILTON
Hamilton was a free-agent Summer League signing by the Detroit Pistons and played for them in three Summer League games last year, averaging 4 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks over 12.7 minutes per contest. He also connected at a 62.5-percent rate from the floor.

He spent the 2018-19 season in the G League as well, averaging 11.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.4 blocks and 1.3 assists in 24.3 minutes over the course of 49 games in which he garnered 20 starts with the Pistons' affiliate Grand Rapids Drive. He played in one preseason game with the Pistons last year.

As a fifth-year senior with UTA in 2017-18, Hamilton set the program single-season record by blocking 77 shots. Those 77 rejections were enough to land him 7th on the program's all-time list despite playing in just 34 games. The Virginia Tech transfer added 11.2 points and 8.1 rebounds in those 34 games, making 31 starts.

NBA SUMMER LEAGUE INFO
Hamilton and the Milwaukee Bucks begin their Summer League on Friday, July 5, at 2:30 p.m. Central against the Philadelphia 76ers. Hervey and the Oklahoma City Thunder commence action on Saturday, July 6, at 2 p.m. Central versus the Utah Jazz.

Both teams will play a minimum of five games and a maximum of seven over the next couple of weeks in Las Vegas. The first four games are already scheduled, and following those the top eight teams will then be seeded in a tournament which begins on July 12 and concludes with the championship game on July 15. Teams which do not qualify for the tournament will each play a consolation game.
