@UTAMavsVB Pulls Off Another Comeback Win

PULLMAN, Washington For the second time this season, the UTA volleyball team overcame a 2-0 deficit to win in five sets. Saturday's victim was Idaho State, who the Mavs (6-3) beat 3-2 (23-25, 19-25, 25-18, 25-21, 16-14) in their final match at the Cougar Challenge.

Kylie Jedlicka and Brooke Townsend were again dominant for the Mavs, tying for a game-high 22 kills. Jedlicka also added a career-high 20 digs to register her first career 20-20 performance. Madelyn St. Germain finished with a match-high 35 digs, while setters Kylee Kapp (29 assists, 8 digs) and Jessica Stancliff (31 assists, 9 digs) nearly missed double-doubles.

The Mavs trailed 21-12 in the first set before they reeled off seven straight points, including six consecutive kills by Jedlicka. UTA eventually pulled into a 23-23 tie with Idaho State, but couldn't take the lead. Idaho State (3-7) won the frame 25-23.

The Bengals continued their momentum into the second set, winning the first seven points. UTA made yet another push, pulling to within five before Idaho State finished off the set 25-19.

UTA turned things around with a strong start of its own in the third set, going up 4-0 behind Townsend, who had two kills and Jedlicka, whose serves forced two errors. A back-and-forth ended when the Mavs scored the final three points to get on the board with a 25-18 win.

The Mavs built up a six-point lead in the fourth set before Devon Martinka's kill wrapped up a 25-21 win to tie the game at two sets apiece.

In the final set, neither team could get any separation until the Bengals built a 12-9 lead. UTA got back in it and staved off a match point en route to a 16-14 win for the team's sixth victory of the young season.

The Mavs return home for the Maverick Invitational next weekend. UTA will open the invitational with a match against Chicago State at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, before hosting Prairie View A&M (1:30 p.m.) and SFA (6:30 p.m.) on Saturday (Sept. 21).
