ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington volleyball team defeated Prairie View A&M and fell to in-state foe SFA on the final day of the Maverick Invite on Saturday. The Mavs took down the Panthers 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-20) on Saturday afternoon, before falling 25-15, 26-24, 25-19 to the Ladyjacks.
UTA wraps up non-conference play with an 8-4 overall record. The Mavs will now start the Sun Belt Conference portion of the 2019 schedule, with matchups against ULM and Louisiana next weekend at College Park Center.
MATCH 1 | UTA 3, PVAMU 0
UTA opened the second and final day of the Maverick Invite with a 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-20) sweep of Prairie View A&M. Â Â
The Mavericks were in control throughout the matchup, outhitting the Panthers .262-.165 for the match, while also leading in blocks (5.0-4.0) and digs (52-36).
Brooke Townsend hit .448 and led the Mavs with a match-high 16 kills.
The opening set saw the teams play to a 13-13 tie halfway through the set. UTA went on to outscore the Panthers 12-7 to close out the frame and pick up the 25-20 win.
PVAMU bounced back in the second set. The Panthers had set-point (24-23) after a kill from Cetara Carter. The Mavs responded with a 3-0 run, highlighted by a pair of kills from Townsend, to take the set and grab a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
The Mavs completed the sweep with a 25-20 win in the third set. UTA jumped out to a 9-3 lead and held off Prairie View and take the set and match.
MATCH 2 | UTA 0, SFA 3
In their second game of day, the Mavs were on the wrong side of a sweep, as SFA defeated UTA 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-19) to close out the Maverick Invite.

SFA held UTA below a .040 hitting percentage in two of the three sets played, en route to the win.

Townsend led the way with 11 kills, while
Jessica Stancliff finished with 19 assists and 11 digs to register her second career double-double.
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Brooke Townsend and
Bre Walp were named to the 2019 Mavericks Invite All-Tournament Team. Townsend racked up 36 kills (3.6 kills per set), 17 digs and 7 blocks, while Walp chipped in with 24 kills (2.4 kills per set) and 10 blocks.
