ARLINGTON – After securing the series win over Arkansas State with a sweep of Friday's doubleheader, UT Arlington fell 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 26-28, 20-25) to the Red Wolves in the series finale on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Mavs suffer their first defeat of the season and drop to 5-1 overall (5-1 SBC) on the year, while A-State avoids the series sweep and improves to 5-3 (5-3 SBC) on the season.
Brooke Townsend and
Brianna Ford tallied 19 kills each for UTA. Ford also added 10 digs to pick up her third consecutive double-double and fourth of the season.
Kylee Kapp notched 33 assists and 20 digs to register her fourth straight double-double, while
Alli Wells collected a match-high 27 digs and
Mollie Blank handed out 22 assists.
As a team, the Mavericks hit .224, marking the fourth time this season that UTA has hit +.220 in a match. The Mavs are 3-1 in those contests.
Madison Brown led A-State with 19 kills, six digs and four blocks. Josie Stanford added 16 kills and a pair of blocks, while Paulina Sobolewska registered a double-double with 13 kills and 19 digs on the day.
UTA will be back in action next weekend (Oct. 23-24) when they travel to Monroe, La. to battle ULM (1-11, 0-8 SBC) in a 3-match series. First serve for the series opener on Friday, Oct. 23 is set for 11 a.m., followed by match two at 6 p.m. The series finale will be Saturday, Oct. 24 (1 p.m.).
